About the designer:
Annie Doornink
Growing up, I spent a lot of time in hardware stores eating stale popcorn, flipping through wallpaper and paint swatches, examining lumber for the straightest cuts, and looking at power tools. My dad fixed up our early 1900s home while starting to build his dream home almost entirely by himself. It took nine years for the home to be finished enough to move in, and when we did, it was empty. My dad then built all the cabinets and furniture himself. A huge part of my childhood was spent in a woodshop in the basement.
When I was in middle school, I started designing furniture for my dad to build, and my parents let me experiment by giving small rooms in their house makeovers with paint and accessories.
As an adult, my husband and I bought our own 1900s bungalow and have slowly remodeled each room, doing most of the work ourselves while learning along the way. We eventually added two kids to our 1,000-square-foot home, and at times, things have felt tight! Over the years, I’ve had to get creative to make things work, imagining new ways to hide storage and make every square inch of our home functional for us.
Regarding education, I started a degree in Interior Design at SPU but switched to Elementary Education after my first year and became a teacher. After having kids and staying home with them for a few years, I decided to pursue interior design and got an internship with a local architecture/design-build firm to learn the trade. I’ve now been working with clients for the last seven years.

Personally, I would describe my style as an eclectic and artsy mix of old and new. I love color and making spaces feel welcoming and cozy while still light and bright. Above all, a space must be functional.
In your home, I want to emphasize the things you love, making your home reflect your personal style. Even if you’re unsure what that might be, I can help you figure it out.

I offer a free one-hour in-person consultation so you can show me your space, discuss what you’re looking for, and see if we’re a good match.
If you choose to move forward, I would typically measure your space and then present you with a floor plan, color story, and mood boards, depending on your needs.
My business may differ from other design studios because I have you hire your own contractor or tradespeople. I’m happy to work with everyone involved in your project to bring your space to life. I charge an hourly rate for my time and bill at the end of every month. I can be as involved as you’d like me to be.
I’m happy to help you place art, style shelves or cabinets, troubleshoot a small entryway, or redesign your entire kitchen.

Unfortunately, I don’t offer remote work at this time. I work in Seattle and the surrounding areas.

Outside of design, I’m a wife, a mom of two tweenagers, and a dog mom to a five-pound mutt. My hobbies include tackling DIY projects in my own home. My husband and I have done everything from pouring our own concrete paver driveway to remodeling our only bathroom and building dream rooms for our kids. I also watercolor paint landscapes and sell my artwork on Etsy.
